When you build a great site and successfully market it so that you are seeing a
fair share of traffic, be sure that you obtain a record of visitors so you may
contact them in the future. Your objective should be to create a community
following that want to periodically hear about your company.
Having a Guest Book Page on your site is probably the least likely method to
accomplish this goal. Most people need some motivation to register with your
site and would like to do so without spending a great amount of time filling in
your form data.
Sure you should have a Guest Book page, but call it something else (or don't
name it) and offer potential registrants some motivation or reward for their
effort in giving you their information. Then be sure you have implemented a
periodic follow up E-mail program to retain their interest.
Building a following takes time and effort but the return in feedback, test
marketing, sales, referrals, etc. makes it priceless.
A Guest Book program without a serious consistent follow up system is worthless
and in some cases can be a detriment to your business. If you are not willing to
or do not have the time to conduct the follow up, it may be wise to exclude this
feature from your site.
